Color of the Year

Hello In Stitches Family!

Have you ever seen someone talking about the color of the year? When I think about color of the year, I often think about the movie The Devil Wears Prada. If you haven’t seen this movie, let me give you a quick retelling.

Andy is a up and coming journalist who lands a job with Miranda Priestly who is the editor in chief for the biggest fashion magazine, Runway. Andy isn’t so worried about fashion, but she does know that if she does a good job for Miranda, she can get any “real” job she wants. So she comes to work in a blue sweater and laughs at their discussion about colors. To this, Miranda says that two years ago, they chose that color in this very room that she’s wearing now.

It’s a pretty iconic scene, but is a little bit true.

People at Pantone get together every year and come up with the color of the year. This year, it’s Peach Fuzz.

Sherman Williams has also come out with a paint color of the year for you – Upward.

So, what does the opinion of a bunch of people in a room mean to you? Well, a couple of things.

First, you’re going to see a lot of these colors in the coming year. From bedspreads to houses, now that you know the Colors of the Year, you’ll see them everywhere.

But, I also think it shows a trend to earth tones, to blue/grays. For a little while, we were seeing a lot of neon colors, but the Color of the Year doesn’t reflect that garishness.

So, take a second to notice some Peach Fuzz around you. Maybe you’ll see an Upward colored house in your neighborhood soon. And if you like either of these tones, let us know. We can help you with that!

And if you haven’t seen The Devil Wears Prada, maybe it’s time!
