Hello In Stitches Family!
Do you have a big family? Small family? Is it time for a family reunion?
It seems like so many of us haven’t seen much of our distant relatives lately. We could blame the virus-that-must-not-be-named, but I think it’s probably a little bit of overwhelm. So this is your sign that it’s time to plan a Family Reunion!
Because our goal is to make your life easier, we’ve compiled a list of things you could do as a family reunion.
You could have a barbecue at a local park!
This is a great idea if you live close to your family. Choose a park that has a lot of activities and invite everyone. Remember to break up the cooking by assigning who brings what!
You could rent a vacation home or cabin for the weekend
Did you know that there are big vacation homes that people rent out just for family reunions? They have them furnished so that you can sleep the most people. Take a look at Airbnb or VRBO and see what you can find! (You can also find cabins on Airbnb)
You could organize a talent show
Now, some families would LOVE this and some families would not show up, but if you’re the type of family who loves to perform, find a venue and have a talent show. Or maybe even a un-Talent Show that’s just for laughs!
You could go to a National Park or Amusement Park together
Our blog writer, Ashley (hi!), just got home from a trip to Disneyland and they saw so many families there with matching shirts who were having family reunions! That may be a bit too expensive for some, but exploring a new place together could be a GREAT way to get to know your family better.
You could host a family recipe cook-off
Is it just me, or are there family recipes that never taste as good as they did when your great-grandma made them? Why not find some of those recipes and have a cook-off! See who can do it best.
You could find a group service project
There are so many people in our communities who need our help. You can go to this website or other websites like Just Serve to find ideas that will help your community.
You could have a family history night
Family history, or genealogy, isn’t just for old ladies. With the advent of DNA testing – like 23 and Me, more and more people are curious about their ancestors. You could have the older folks in your family share a little bit about how they lived, or you could have someone come and teach you how to use programs like Ancestory.com to find where you come from.
You could have a family camp out
Does your family love a good s’more? Then why not make a long weekend of it at a campground, near or far? If you book enough in advance, you could have your whole family together, plus a couple places for the softies who bring their RV’s. (That’s me, Ashley, the blog writer and softie!)
How could we make this even easier for you? Let us make your family reunion t-shirts. I want you to take a look at this great family.
Each of the sibling’s families wear a different color shirt. Isn’t this awesome! Imagine the memories you could make!
Here are those shirts a little closer up:
We can put people’s names on the back, because we all know that if you have a big family, sometimes you forget some names.
We can make sweatshirts:
AND we can make matching onesies:
So whether your family is big or small, we hope we’ve given you some ideas of how you can make a great family reunion!
Have you ever done something really fun in a family reunion that you’d like to share? Just let us know!
