It’s Halloween Time!

Hello In Stitches Family,

Are you a fan of Halloween or are you waiting for a more jolly holiday?

For us here at In Stitches, we have a lot of different feelings about this time of year, but we can all agree on a few things. We love history, candy, and funny shirts. So let’s talk about that today.

We scoured the internet for some interesting facts about Halloween and its origin and here’s what we came up with.

Fact #1: Halloween is believed to be from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.

Samhain is a harvest festival marking the end of summer and the beginning of winter. It was thought that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, and spirits could roam the earth.

Fact #2: “Stingy Jack” is the reason we carve Jack o’Lanterns.

“Stingy Jack” is an Irish legend about a man who tricked the devil and was doomed to wander the earth with only a carved-out turnip to light his way. When Irish immigrants came to America, they found pumpkins more plentiful and began using them instead.

Fact #3: Americans spend A LOT on Halloween candy each year.

Like over $2.6 billion! The most popular candies during Halloween are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Skittles, and M&M’s. Which one is your favorite?

Does your little goblin need a bag to collect all that candy? We can personalize a tote bag for them to get all the candy that their little heart desires!

Fact #4: The tradition of wearing Halloween costumes came from the Celts as well.

The Celts believed that they could ward off spirits and ghosts by disguising themselves.

Need a little help with that? We’ve made some pretty fun costumes for clients before.

Fact #5: There is symbolism in the colors of Halloween.

The tradition orange and black have meaning that you may not have thought about. Orange symbolizes the harvest and fall, while black represents death and the darkness of winter.

This makes us wonder…what do you think about this bleached hoodie? Does it feel Halloween-y to you?

Fact #6: Hollywood has made Halloween what it is!

Many Halloween traditions, like skeletons, witches, and ghosts, have been heavily influenced by Hollywood films and pop culture. Because of this, Halloween is totally different from its Celtic roots and has been made into a fun, if not a little bit scary, holiday.

Well, there are some facts, but how about some smiles. Here are some t-shirts that we have on hand to help you celebrate this spooky time of year.
